profile: Marc Antoni
From an early age I loved music; I used to love tuning into stations all over the world on my little MW radio with mono earplug! As things progressed my love of music only increased and my dad added to this love affair by regularly playing his reggae collection on his HMV gram (remember them?), thus tunes like The Slickers 'Johnny Too Bad' and Carl Malcolm's 'No Jestering', among others, hold special places in my memory. Although I grew up in reggae and have an extensive collection it is really soul and in particular smooth soul that really captivated me.
It was Barry White who first introduced me to smooth soul and from the mid 70s I've been hooked on it – I need it, it's my fix!! I'm a sucker for harmony, and when Champagne released 'How 'bout Us' in 1980 I couldn't get enough… I played that until the tape I had it on wore out, busted!! So really, even through the Electro, break dancing, Hip Hop, Jungle phases, through the years I've only been interested in one thing – SOUL…… Smooth Soul.
I have had many functions in the past including my first major outing… upstairs at Kings on the Rye (remember that place?), mask parties, 'Shades of the Past' (a night where you had to wear shades), Afro Nostalgia Nights 1, 2 and 3, (3/2001, 11/2001, 8/2005) at Earl's Wine Bar in the city – a night where 70s clothes and afros had to be worn. Now THAT was real fun! One email described the host (me) as 'crazy but totally lovable'. I guess that totally sums me up! As always, I place the emphasis on happiness and classy music. I have also been a presenter on Rhythm365.com, which I really enjoyed too – here I got my first taste of 'instant feedback' via the studio chat room – a concept I really like.
Having looked at Ramjamradio.com over a couple of months it was a very easy decision to join the team. I think the term here is professionalism - it seems to be in abundance here at Ramjamradio.com - and where there's professionalism there's always room for innovation, so I'm glad to be onboard to experience the great changes and forward movements ahead.
